Giving THANKS 2025
It has been a tough and challenging year for many of us. As we conclude Thrive in 2025, I realise that part of the theme for the year was the ancient motif of the giant/dragon-killer. This battle never stops: fighting sin, doubt, fear, anxiety, loss, and the many physical, emotional, and financial challenges we face.
Celna Genis said it beautifully at our Thanksgiving meeting on Sunday: “Life is like a heart rate monitor – it’s a rhythm of ups and downs, meaning we’re still alive! You do not want a flatline; that means we are dead!”
Every mess should become our message. Every mistake, our mission. That is exactly what it means to slay a dragon in the spirit: by the power of Christ we redeem the negative into a positive.
Recently the Holy Spirit stirred my heart with this insight: Jesus never spent His time verbalising all the many challenges of His era. He didn’t centre His preaching on Herod’s deception and pride, or the Roman military occupation, or constantly posterise the tax collectors’ corruption. He spoke the solution, not the problem.
As Dr Brian Adams always says: “We do not deny reality; we defy it!” We see the realities of this life as temporal and fleeting.
Jesus consistently gave heavenly insights and perspectives on earthly realities. To Him, nothing in this world was the ultimate reality. Heaven, the Kingdom, the afterlife – that is the true reality. This is why He warned us not to achieve status and fame in this life yet be poor toward God. Do not build security for yourself in this life only, and then discover you are bankrupt towards heaven.
He looked at poverty and saw the blessing hidden within it. He looked at mourning and knew that only God can comfort the immense weight of losing a loved one. Only God can reveal and show you that there is an afterlife where we will see our loved ones again for eternity – that heaven is real.
This life is fleeting in so many ways. We all say, “Where did the time go?” Our children mature so quickly. The year went by so fast. And then, one day, our time here on earth suddenly ends. This is a reality we will all face.
Jesus – the Mediator, Reconciler, Saviour, and Shepherd – is the way to life. He modelled a life where one eye is fixed on the heaven that is coming, while the other is busy making this world a little more like heaven on earth.
In spite of all the earthly shortcomings, limitations, and uncertainties, He lived as someone whose assurances were not written with human ink. He spoke as One who had authority, and people listened, because He did not speak like the Pharisees and religious leaders of His day. He spoke as One who came from heaven. He knows it is gloriously real.
May we continually access and receive the grace in which we stand, so that we remain firm and resolute – convinced of the glory within that far surpasses the fleeting glories of this world. May we become complete in Him in every way, as He continues to complete that which concerns us.
Thank you, Body of Christ, for your faithful and obedient giving, praying, support, attendance, work, and labour with us to see heaven come to earth in real and meaningful ways. We rejoice as our eyes are opened to see the beautiful and glorious rewards and benefits of serving Jesus.
Peace and grace,
Apostle Jan & Prophet Chantal
